The darkest piece in the collection and the one most concerned with light.

Four photographic fragments, each built around a different source of illumination, montaged into a single nocturnal surface.

Water caught mid-shatter through rectangular frames, suspended droplets holding light the way oil paint holds a glaze. Structural steel cutting diagonal lines across black. A balustraded balcony strung with bulbs that pull the eye along a horizontal line. And a cascade of Edison glass hanging from wrought iron, each one carrying its own small fire against the surrounding dark.

The piece doesn't describe a place. It describes what happens when a photographer stops documenting light and starts painting with it. Every quadrant is organized around a luminous event, and the montage stitches them together the way a painter builds a canvas in layers of transparency, dark over dark over dark, with the light buried inside rather than applied on top.

On Chromaluxe metal at 40x40 inches, the substrate disappears into the blacks and reappears in the highlights. The hanging bulbs gain actual glow. The water gains actual shimmer. The metal surface does what this piece needs most, it makes the light real.
